Turns out Amazon just received a patent on technology to allow the resale of eBooks. And I’m feeling a mix of emotions.
First thing, as the article points out, it’s just a patent. This isn’t set in stone yet. And I’m grateful.
As a consumer of eBooks, I’m fist pumping because I spend way too much money on digital goods. And I love discounts.
But what would be the incentive to ever buy new if you could buy the exact same digital copy for a fraction of the price?
As an aspiring writer, I hoping this doesn’t happen. Many authors thrive off eBook sales and let’s face it, when someone buys a used eBook the author and publisher don’t make any money.
So genius, or catastrophic? What do you think?
